UC San Diego Screening Core Laboratory

The UC San Diego Screening Core Laboratory is a Biosafety Level 2 facility (BSL2) located in the 4th floor of the building including 3 fully equipped tissue culture laboratories available and approved for the culture of pathogenic organisms with 7 laminar flows (biosafety cabinets) and 10 CO2 incubators to perform HTS and cell-based screens. Assay results are recorded with an EnVision (Perkin Elmer) microplate fluorescence/luminescence reader or an ImageXpress MicroXLS (Molecular Devices) and analyzed using MetaXpress software. The platform is also equipped with an Acoustic Transfer System (ATS, EDC Biosystems) able to transfer nanoliters of compounds from stock to assay plates using acoustic energy; a central robotic arm (Precise Flex 400) integrating the ATS to the ImageXpress, plate hotel with capacity for 160 plates and automatic plate sealer and de-sealer. Other liquid handlers present in the laboratory are: Biomek FXp liquid handler (Beckman Coulter); a microplate washer dispenser, freezers and desiccators to store libraries of compounds. The UCSD Screening Core is also equipped with one IVIS Lumina LT, series III Imaging System (Perkin Elmer) with XGI-8 Anesthesia System (XFOV-24) located in an animal facility, to be used for non-invasive mice imaging.
